Chapter 1: Metaphor
In chapter 1-6 we will be using Illustrator. Illustrator is a vector drawing program and it great for creating illustrations for the print and the web. If you are doodler, you will love Illustrator because many of the tools in Illustrator mimic what cartoonist and illustrators do with traditional art. Just one word of caution it takes time to become master ninja with the ultra important pen tool so don’t stress out if the pen tool doesn’t seem to be very cooperative with your mouse movements.

- Complete chapter 1 Exercises 1-4

- Complete both of the Illustrator tutorials listed below.(intro to illustrator)
- Illustrator: Large Brushes for Abstract Backgrounds by Chad Neuman from Layer’s Magazine
- Lets Get Started : A Guide to Learning illustrator from the AI Vault – complete one of the linked tutorials
- Save your assignments in the Illustrator format and then export to the JPEG or GIF format. (How do I do this?)
Homework Assignments
Be sure to complete the in lab assignments before completing homework. The homework assignment must be completed by next class meeting.
Assignment 1: Post Your work on the web
- Upload exercise files (Export as JPEG) to Flickr
- See How to Export from Illustrator post
- Tag the image with the tag, digitalfoundations
- In the description credit the tutorial you did for the exercise.
Assignment 2: Readings and Reflections
- Read the selected readings below and write a first post on what you learned from the readings
